Samad Said Joins Opposition Campaign Trail

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- National literature laureate Datuk A. Samad Said has joined the PAS campaign trail to expound on his disenchantment over the Teaching and Learning of Science and Mathematics in English (PPSMI) policy.
"The government has failed to announce measures to uphold Bahasa Melayu. What they did was strengthening English as it is the language of business and aristocrats.
"It is also inconsistent with its decision to abolish PPSMI. When they implemented it, it took them five months but it takes two or three years to scrap it," he told reporters at PAS Permatang Pasir office here Friday.
Samad said he would take part in the opposition campaign in the Pengkalan Pasir state by-election to air his views as the government had ignored artists like him but would listen to calls made by the opposition.
"When our views are ignored, it is better to seek help from the opposition as they are vocal in raising issues," he said.
